Syracuse, NY -- A U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officer was charged with embezzling government funds today.
Todd L. Tyo, 46, of Heuvelton, is accused of embezzling more than $1,000 that came into his possession as part of his employment at the Alexandria Bay Port of Entry, states a sealed indictment opened today in federal court. Federal prosecutors did not immediately release any details of the alleged embezzlement.
After his arraignment, Tyo was released on his own recognizance, prosecutors said. Tyo also was placed on administrative leave from his job, prosecutors said.
The case is being investigated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
